Frequently Asked Windshield Questions

Can I Use Nail Polish to Repair My  Windshield?

Nail polish should not be used as a permanent or temporary fix for windshield repair. Nail polish was not made or intended for windshield repair and thus, will not do the job necessary to protect your windshield from need of replacement.

The use of nail polish will not hide the damage of your windshield; in fact nail polish may even discolor from sun exposure, making your damaged area even more noticeable.

Apart from its inability to hide windshield damage, applying nail polish to a crack or chip will fill it in partially. Professionals use tools to extract the air in the damaged area, and inject a resin in its place, filling it. This in turn will restore the windshield’s integrity and prevent any further spreading. If it is not filled in, it is not repaired and you run the risk of needing future replacement. Furthermore, if nail polish partially fills the chip, there is no longer a way for the actual resins used by professionals to be properly injected into the damaged area.

Having your windshield repaired using a glass repair kit or (preferably) through a professional, you will notice most of the damage will be much less visible.

Is Mobile Windshield Repair Service Expensive?

Using a mobile repair service is a convenient and reliable way of getting your windshield repair done. Most repairs can be done around the neighborhood of $60, and the service will come to you.

Not only is the repair inexpensive, but it will also be billed to your insurance company if you file a claim for your windshield repair. Windshield repair is covered through the comprehensive portion of your auto policy, and many insurance companies will waive your deductible, making the repair free of cost. You can be at home or work when they do the repair, and it should take about 30 minutes.

In most cases you can drive off as soon as the repair is done, without any worry that driving will damage your windshield. However, be sure to consult the repair technician regarding drive-away time before you do so.

Are All Windshields the Same Quality?

No! The strongest, best fitting windshields are those that are designated OEM parts. OEM stands for “Original Equipment Manufacturer,” and is specifically designed for your vehicle. It’s a good idea to ask a shop if they only use OEM parts on their windshield replacement. There are imported windshields that less than reputable shops will use to cut corners and save money. These aftermarket windshields are not as strong as OEM windshields. Remember, windshields protect you and your passengers--get a quality replacement.

Does Windshield Replacement Have a Negative Effect on the Environment?

Yes. There are currently no facilities in the United States to recycle windshields, so they are added to our landfills. Many damaged windshields can be repaired, saving YOU money and landfills from being filled with perfectly repairable windshields.
