Windshield Repair Information
How much will it cost me to get my windshield repaired?
A repair can run between $40 to $60 dollars. A windshield replacement can run for as much as $500+. Insurance companies are aware of this and will often waive your deductible for getting a repair instead of a replacement.
Will my windshield look as good as new after it’s repaired?
Windshield visibility will be greatly improved after a repair. However, there may still be a scar showing there was previous damage. If the potential scarring of the windshield impairs the driver’s vision, the repair shop will probably recommend a windshield replacement.
How long after a repair will I have to wait before I can drive my vehicle?
In most cases you will be able to drive away soon after the windshield is repaired. However, it is always wise to check with the repair technician to confirm drivability.
After a chip or crack has incurred
- Keep dirt and debris from getting into the damaged area. To do this you may want to put some clear tape over the damaged area.
- Do not touch the damage (other than protective tape). The slightest touch could cause the crack to worsen.
- Limit your driving. It will only increase the likeliness that the damage will spread.
- Keep from slamming your doors or trunk. Shutting your door normally already places stress on your windshield. Slamming doors increase the stress on your windshield.
- Avoid extreme temperature fluctuations, which include use of the defroster, washing your car etc. If you must use the defroster use it on a very low setting. If possible, do not use the damaged car until you can take it into a shop to get it repaired.
- Take it into a repair shop as soon as you can.
